RB brings the Payne

With the number of running backs coming out of Virginia in 2006, it's still hard to overlook one as talented as Keith Payne.
The Vienna (Va.) Oakton product is a big time running back prospect with his 6-foot-2, 215-pound frame and 4.4 speed. So far he has seen interest from schools including Virginia, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Army, Georgetown, Richmond and Norwich.

He is also hoping to hear from Miami, Tennessee and Texas.
Payne helped Oakton to a 10-2 record as they were district champions. He went on to be an honorable mention all-metro, first team all-district and first team all-region as he posted 1,000 yards on 150 carries and 19 total touchdowns.
"We worked as a team the whole season, the team got a lot stronger because we were in the weight room a lot more," he said. "My speed, strength and vision improved a lot this year also."
Who is Payne favoring right now?
"I'd say its Virginia, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Penn State and West Virginia," he said. "They all have good programs and they're interested and the academics are a good part of those schools."
What does he want out of a school?
"I want a big school with good academics that is competitive and well coached," he said. "I want it to feel like a community."
Payne also mentioned that location may play a factor in his recruitment.
"I'd rather stay on the East Coast, but I'll be looking for the best offer I get."
This summer Payne is planning to attend camps at Virginia, Maryland, Ohio State and Virginia Tech.
