The NFL Draft has ended, so it’s time to take a look at some of the top picks and where they ranked in high school. Let’s take a look at No. 15 overall pick Dwayne Haskins, a quarterback who was drafted by the Washington Redskins. Here are the four players ranked ahead of him at his position of pro-style quarterback out of high school.

1. Jacob Eason

The skinny: After committing to Georgia before his junior season, Eason began to explore other options when coach Mark Richt was fired. Florida became a real threat, but when Kirby Smart took over the program he made it a priority to keep Eason in Athens. However, after Eason lost the starting job to Jake Fromm, Eason made the decision to transfer to Washington, where he is set to be the starter during the 2019 season.

Farrell’s take: Eason was the only five-star pro-style quarterback in this class, and he has all the talent and ability to be a star. He showed flashes of that ability as a starter his freshman year at Georgia and should be very good at Washington. He had the size, arm strength and accuracy to be a five-star out of high school and reminded me of Matthew Stafford. Eason has a chance to be drafted higher than Haskins if he puts it all together at Washington.

2. K.J. Costello

The skinny: Costello trimmed his list of top schools down to Stanford, USC and Michigan before committing to the Cardinal during the spring after his junior season. After seeing action in 11 games during the 2017 season, Costello became the full-time starter in 2018. Finishing with 3,540 yards, 29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, there are plenty of expectations in Palo Alto for a big season this fall.

Farrell’s take: Costello is quietly one of the best quarterbacks in college football right now and had all the intangibles out of high school to be a star. I liked his pocket presence, his downfield vision and confidence, and he’s shown those traits at Stanford. He doesn’t get as much attention as he deserves.

3. Feleipe Franks

The skinny: Franks initially committed to LSU, but after multiple visits to Florida he eventually made the flip to the Gators during his senior season. Franks experienced his fair share of struggles during his first year as a starter in 2017, but began to look more comfortable last fall with 2,457 yards, 24 touchdowns and six interceptions. All eyes will be on him in 2019 to see if he can take his game to the next level.

Farrell’s take: Franks had a huge arm coming out of high school and very good size, although he was a bit erratic and inaccurate overall. However, his ceiling is very high. He started to put it together last season and if he takes it to the next level the NFL will be drooling over him.

4. Austin Kendall

The skinny: Upon arriving at Oklahoma from East Carolina, then-offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley made Kendall a recruiting priority. His efforts paid off as Kendall committed to the Sooners and decided to make the move from North Carolina to Norman. Sitting behind Baker Mayfield and then Kyler Murray, Kendall was unable to make an impact on the field in Norman. After Jalen Hurts announced his transfer to Oklahoma, Kendall decided to take his talents to West Virginia, where he will be immediately eligible to play this fall.

Farrell’s take: Time will tell how Kendall does in college, but West Virginia is a very good fit for him. He wasn’t the biggest quarterback and didn’t have the best arm, but he was accurate and smart and reminded me a bit of Will Grier, who had a great career with the Mountaineers.

5. Dwayne Haskins

The skinny: Haskins initially committed to Maryland, but he kept his options open to other schools. A coaching change in College Park intensified the rumors that he was looking in different directions, and with Ohio State, his childhood favorite, making a serious push, he made the flip to the Buckeyes in January. Haskins took over the starting job in Columbus leading up to the 2018 season and never looked back, finishing third in the Heisman Trophy voting after throwing for 4,831 yards and 50 touchdowns.

Farrell’s take: Haskins developed into a great quarterback at Ohio State and much of the credit has to go to current head coach Ryan Day, who did a great job with him. We liked his smooth delivery and the way he spun the ball out of high school and named him our QB MVP at a regional camp before he had any offers. Now as a first-round selection, he’s set the bar for the others on this list.
