Randy Estes Pac 10 Bound

A name that we didn’t think we would be hearing much the rest of this recruiting season is Randy Estes. Estes, 6-1, 180 pound safety played at Los Alamitos (Calif.) earlier in the year before transferring to Long Beach Poly where he had played his first two years in high school. Estes took an official visit to Washington State this past weekend and we’re hearing he’s a Coug.
Estes visited Pullman with Long Beach Poly (Calif.) defensive back Byron Velega. Velega won’t be home until later tonight but we spoke with Velega’s father who said Estes is a Coug.

“We met Randy at the airport,” Mr. Velega said. “I hadn’t seen him in awhile but he said he was excited to be taking the visit. Randy told us that he had recently committed to Washington State although he still has to do some things in order to qualify. I guess Washington State had just offered him when they found out his legal issues weren’t as best as once thought. Since he’s a minor, Randy said he’ll be on probation and have a misdemeanor on his record but that’s the extent of it.
“I know he was working on Byron and was talking about how they could both be starting next year because Washington State loses three of their four defensive backs. Byron called me and said he was having a good time but I know he hasn’t committed yet.”
The news regarding Estes obviously floored us a bit as we had been hearing that it would not only be tough for him to qualify but that most schools had stopped recruiting him following his arrest at Los Alamitos for possession of an illegal substance. We’ll definitely try and talk to Estes later tonight to get confirmation from the horses mouth himself but if true this would be one of the biggest recruiting stories of the year by far.
