Ramsey drawing attention

Converse (Texas) Judson 2015 safety Kevion Ramsey has been making impression on the camp circuit this summer after a strong sophomore season with the Judson Rockets.
Ramsey, a 6-foot-1, 165-pound, safety runs in the 4.44 range in the forty, and has seen significant interest from Baylor, Texas, and Texas Tech, and this summer he was able to work with coaches from all three programs.

"I hit up the UT camp of course," Ramsey said. "I went to a Baylor camp and also a Texas Tech camp. I also went to some camps that weren't college camps like National Underclassmen Camps. I went to a couple of those too."
His latest stop was to the University of Texas for the Texas Stampede.
"That was a good time. I went with one of my friends, Abdul Beecham. We went up there," Ramsey said. "It was nice. The food was good. The coaches were fun and they were excited about it and we were excited about it. The only thing I kind of didn't like was the bowling. I'm not that much of a bowler. I'm not that good at it."
His bowling score my not reflect his football abilities, and it certainly did not reflect the impression Texas left on the young defensive back.
"It was close, it was tight," Ramsey said. "Coach Akina, he always talks about family and that's basically how they treat you at UT."
Baylor and Texas Tech also left quality impressions on Ramsey.
"I learned a lot at the Baylor camp," Ramsey said. "I went to one in Waco and it was neat. There was a lot of competition there. The coaches were good. It was pretty good. I learned a lot.
"I learned way more there (at Texas Tech) too. The coaches there were more like UT coaches too. They were close knit, tight. It was more like a family environment. Tough love and things like that.
"From the Baylor camp I never knew how to stem a receiver like stay on the inside of them. I put that in my game. At the Texas Tech camp they taught us when you're playing one-on-one with a receiver instead of getting right into the backpedal take two shuffle steps just in case they do a quick hitch or something like that you can break on it easier. I learned that from them."
He admits he grew up a Longhorn fan and enjoyed watching players like Vince Young. However, when it comes to recruiting he is keeping more of an open mind.
"UT still stands out to me but I'm liking Texas Tech too," Ramsey said. "The new coaching staff, they're young and they look like they are ready to get after it. A lot of players that are going up there I kind of grew up around."
