To be a successful offensive lineman in college football today, it helps if you can multiple positions.
For Madison (Miss.) Madison Central star Chaz Ramsey, that's no problem at all. It was that versatility that caused Rivals.com to select him to play for the East squad in the inaugural Offense-Defense All-American Bowl. The game will be played on Jan. 4 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and broadcast live on ESPNU.
"This is a really exciting honor, and I'm proud to be selected by Rivals.com," Ramsey said. "I think I can bring a lot of things to this game that will help the team win. I can play anywhere that they need me to, and I'll also bring some good leadership skills. I'll do anything the coaches ask me to, and I'll do my best, work hard and help the team win."
It's that type of attitude – and his ability to move around on the line – that made him one of the hottest targets in the Magnolia State before he committed to Auburn. He turned down scholarship offers from teams like Florida State, Michigan, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Southern Miss and Vanderbilt to pledge to the Tigers. He is ranked as the nation's No. 13 offensive guard and the No. 11 player in Mississippi by Rivals.com
"(Auburn OL) coach Hugh Nall is talking about me playing left tackle behind King Dunlap," Ramsey said. "He said he likes my foot speed. The situation at AU looks real good. It will help me coming in and playing behind King my first year. He can teach me some stuff and get me used to the speed of the game."
Ramsey is excited about the opportunity to head to Florida and play on national television.
"I know Auburn plays on TV every week, so this will be something I'll need to get used to," Ramsey said. "But it's an exciting thing for sure. Auburn fans will get a chance to see what type of player they're getting, and I only hope I can make them happy by working hard and doing my best in the game."
