Rivals250 quarterback Brandon Wimbush has been busy lately but found time last weekend to visit Virginia Tech. The Hokies staff talked to the Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter's Prep standout about some interesting things regarding early playing time.
"I was able to see mostly everything," the 6-foot-2, 208-pound Wimbush said. "Coach (Scot) Loeffler took me on a tour of the campus. I was also able to speak with coach (Frank) Beamer by myself. It was all great stuff. I got to see the practice and how they were able to perform while also being really intense. It was the first day they had pads on and everyone was adjusting. It was a good day overall.
"I heard a lot about early playing time from the coaches. That's something that got my attention. After this year all of their quarterbacks are really young, so I know I would have to compete for some playing time. It looks I can compete early there so that was the thing that stuck out the most to me. It's also a great academic school and the life on campus was great."
Wimbush has been linked to schools like Penn State, Miami, Ohio State and many others but he will still take some time before making any decisions.
"I'm thinking about putting out a top 5 in mid April," Wimbush said. "I'll probably be able to make my decision after the open period because I know that will open my eyes to all the schools that I'm interested in."
Wimbush said he might visit Ohio State if he has a free weekend.
