R100 OT Tyler Johnson on recent offers, Texas & Oklahoma visits
CONROE, Tex. -- Midway through spring, Rivals100 offensive tackle Tyler Johnson is still eyeing up a commitment on National Signing Day - unless he isn’t.
Should he choose to commit this summer, it seems his decision comes down to two heavy-hitters in Oklahoma and Texas, both of which he’s taken official visits to over the past few weeks. However, programs like Florida State and USC are just entering the race in his recruitment, and should he continue to take it into the fall, there may be opportunity for programs like the Seminoles or Trojans to at least make things interesting.
“I am still planning to make my commitment on Signing Day,” he said. “It’s either that, or I might do it before the start of the season, I’m still trying to decide. There are benefits to both decisions.
“I still consider every school. Offers from the Pac-12, the ACC, it’s kind of new to me … Even though it’s kind of late in my recruitment, it’s still great to see them offering me.”
Between his two latest offers, there may be a bit more opportunity for FSU. Offensive line coach Greg Frey brought a previous connection to Johnson back with him to Tallahassee after recruiting him as a coach with Michigan.
“I still don’t take anything for granted - I stay in contact with coaches from new schools that have offered me,” Johnson said. “(Frey) was the O-Line coach at Michigan and is now at Florida State, and we still keep in touch. Once you have those relationships, it can affect the outcome of your whole recruitment.”
