The offseason always brings a lot of coaching changes to the college football landscape. That can also affect many players' opinions about schools, and that's the case with Rivals100 offensive tackle Richie Petitbon. The standout from Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga is slowing down his recruitment.
"Before my junior season and the summer leading up to my junior season, I built some great relationships with different schools and different coaches, but this offseason there have been a lot of coaching changes," the 6-foot-4, 296-pound Petitbon said. "My family and I have stepped back and are reevaluating the situation at different schools. Penn State, Maryland and LSU had some changes.
"I'm stepping back so I can meet the new coaches and figure out the new personalities and mentalities of the new coaches. Right now my recruitment is still open, but I still love LSU, Alabama, Penn State and Maryland, but I'm also going to visit some new places as well."
Last weekend Petitbon visited Boston College.
"It was a beautiful campus. Coach (Ben) Albert and coach (Al) Washington were cool," Petitbon said. "We got a tour of the campus and the facilities and it was pretty nice. Coach (Justin) Frye and coach (Steve) Addazio are putting the program back together. When you think of Boston College, you think of offensive linemen and a tough, physical team. It's in a great city with a beautiful campus. When choosing my high school, the academics were very important and it will be for college. Their degree will go really far in the business world and after football."
Maryland and Alabama will be seeing Petitbon on campus soon.
"I know that Maryland's junior day is coming up, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it because of my basketball playoffs," Petitbon said. "I've been talking to coach (Randy) Edsall and I'm excited about getting back over there some time soon.
"I'm also going to go to Alabama either for their junior day on March 1 or for a spring practice. Coach (Nick) Saban, coach (Lance) Thompson and coach (Mario) Cristobal have been in contact with me and they're excited to get me back down there."
Petitbon was one of the top offensive linemen at the Under Armour Underclassmen Combine.
