Alabama added their name to Rivals100 linebacker Ricky DeBerry's extensive offer sheet yesterday. The stand out from Richmond (Va.) St. Christopher's also has a few visits coming up this week.
"It was great talking to coach Saban," said the 6-foot-2, 237-pound DeBerry. "He's a really cool guy. You can tell he loves the game of football, loves what he does and is there for his players. I definitely can't wait to get down there and meet him in person.
"I know they have been very successful these past few years since he has been there," he said. "They're always in the hunt for the national championship every year. You can never count them out. I got on YouTube a lot and have seen the all-access things about them. You can tell they are really serious about what they do and how they coach."
DeBerry has more than 50 scholarship offers and it is difficult for him to stay in touch with all of those schools but Alabama could be moving into that top group.
"They're definitely up there with some of the schools I'm interested in," DeBerry said. "I definitely want to get down there some time soon. I'm trying to narrow down my list some time in the next few months."
DeBerry is visiting a few SEC schools at the end of this week.
"I know we've had a couple of schedule changes but I know for sure we're going to be at Tennessee on Saturday," he said. "We might also be there Friday. Ole Miss will be on Thursday and Friday and Mississippi State might be on Friday also. We might not go to Mississippi State because the coach might not be in town because of something with his family."
Rivals100 defensive tackle Tim Settle will be taking these visits with DeBerry.
