Quarterbacks at the USC camp

One of the toughest positions to judge when you go to a combine is the all-important quarterback position. Timing and chemistry with wide receivers takes time. Time to develop rapport with receivers is not available. That being said, there were some impressive quarterbacks at the camp who showed that they have the potential to be good this fall.
The legendary Long Beach (Calif.) Poly program looks to be in good hands with Leon Jackson, III. Jackson is a southpaw who is an outstanding athlete and he throws the ball well. Pac10Recruitng has heard from sources who should know that Jackson is the best QB at Poly since Chris Lewis who now starts for Stanford.

There was a junior to be at the camp that has all the goods and he is Rocky Hinds who suits up for Playa del Rey (Calif.) St. Bernard. He has the height that the D-I schools like standing about 6-foot-4 and moves real well. He will be a major recruit in 2003.
Eddie Miller from Venice, Calif., was very accurate and possesses good arm. Look for Miller to throw for a bundle of yards in 2002. He has two outstanding wide receivers to throw to in B.J. Vickers and Antwaun Giddens (both were discussed in an earlier camp report). Miller reminds us of former Oregon State QB Jonathan Smith.
Another QB to keep your eye on and who had a great camp was Richard Irvins. Irvins sure passes the look test and is being tutored by one of the southern California’s best QB gurus, Steve Clarkson of Air7. Irvins will play at Pasadena (Calif.) Muir after beginning his career at Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Harvard-Westlake.
Peter Dobush is built like a linebacker but he plays QB for Manhattan Beach (Calif.) Mira Costa. He’s a very impressively built athlete. Dobush looked good in the seven-on-seven drills, completing the majority of his passes.
There was sophomore to be that we will definitely hear about over the next few years. Remember this name Jeremy Chiles. Chiles is a wide receiver who plays for Los Alamitos, Calif., a known wide receiver factory. He ranks with the very best at this stage with any of them. Who has played for Los Al? How about Tony Hartley and Keenan Howry both players were or are stars for Oregon.
Two Long Beach (Calif.) Poly linebackers Brian Banks and Mark Washington sure passed the look test on Sunday. Poly’s linebacker position looks very good with these two.
Pac10Recruiting will also be reporting on these players that attended the camp. All the players listed are from California. OL Matt Reese from Bakersfield-Centennial, DB Duran Cooley from Los Angeles-Cathedral, TE Dan Kause from Anaheim-Servite, DB Eddie Hunter from Inglewood, Adam Tenney from Carlsbad, DB Nick Solokian from Santa Barbara, DB Anthony Wheat from Compton-Dominguez Hills, WR/DB Rasheed Prescott from Los Alamitos and John Nichols from Bellflower.
There will be other players that attended the USC camp that Pac10Recruiting will be covering.
All in all, it was a successful weekend for the young athletes in attendance and the coaching staff that gave their time…
