He has no official offers as of yet, but he is hearing from Iowa, Michigan State, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Maryland, Florida, Army, Navy, Penn State and Syracuse.
Distance will not be a factor in the decision while coaching staff, school academics and style of offense will be.
"My dad is a key part of the decision process with helping book trips and talking to coaches and such," Matt said.
Mr. Bowerman was drafted by the Detroit Lions out of New Mexico State some years back.
Matt has attended the Wisconsin workout day, the Maryland camp, the Senior Elite Day at Ohio State and a team camp this year.
Matt is a Texas Longhorns fan.
If he had to make his official visits, they would be to the following (his comments follow):
Ohio State - "They are an really awesome football program. The coaching staff is personable and the quarterback coach is a great guy. I was impressed with Columbus and the campus as a place to live and they have the prospect of a national title."
Maryland - "The coaching staff is great and the way they spread the ball around makes the offense a good fit. The campus is beautiful and the weather is warmer than here. They are an improving program with good prospects for the future."
Michigan State - "They have a good football tradition. I have family in the area and they've shown a lot of interest in me as a player. They are also a team with great potential team success."
Wisconsin - "They showed a lot of interest and the coaches were great when I went to the workout. Madison is a great city. The facilities are great. They have a fantastic alumni base and they were improving the stadium when I was there. They are a good university."
Florida - "The weather is warmer and I have family in the area. The style of offense is my preference of offenses and they compete for the national title on a yearly basis. Coach Spurrier is the head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterback coach, all three and you don't find many head coaches that involved in the offense of their team."
Matt said of his strong points - "I hate to lose so my competitiveness and I have a desire to win no matter what. I have good arm strength and an ability to read the defense quickly. My check-off ability seems to find the right guy and I have a good knowledge for the game."
He described himself as - "A field general and I find a way to win."
Matt is still undecided as to a major, although the physical sciences are an interest.
