QBs still top Virginia Top 30

The Commonwealth of Virginia kept most of the talent in-state this year in the final Rivals.com postseason Virginia top 30. The top two players in Virginia, both quarterbacks decided to stay in-state heading to Blacksburg and Charlottesville respectively.

There's no surprise at the top where Hampton, Va. five-star quarterback Tyrod Taylor remained the entire year. The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder accounted for 2,500 yards of offense and 41 touchdowns as a senior. He will be taking his services to Virginia Tech in hopes of following in the athletic quarterback tradition of Michael Vick and Bryan Randall.

Springfield (Va.) West Springfield quarterback Peter Lalich moved up one spot to No. 2. The 6-foot-5, 235-pounder threw for 3,141 yards and 31 touchdowns as a senior. Lalich will be taking his talents to Charlottesville to play for the Cavaliers.

Four-star defensive end Jamar Jackson jumped up five spots to No. 3 in the final rankings after a solid senior season in which he recorded 63 tackles and nine sacks. The 6-foot-4, 225-pounder committed to Florida State and could be a standout rush end for Bobby Bowden.

Virginia commitment J'Courtney Williams out of Christchurch (Va.) Christchurch School lands at the No. 4 spot. The 6-foot-4, 212-pounder should be another star linebacker in Al Groh's defense. The four-star prospect participated in the Army All-American game in January.

Rounding out the top five is wide receiver Jay Smith out of Norfolk (Va.) Lake Taylor. The North Carolina State commitment will be a big target for new head coach Tom O'Brien and has a high ceiling.

Two Virginia Tech commitments check in at No. 6 and 7 and both made big leaps forward in the final rankings. No. 6 goes to cornerback Cris Hill who moved up 11 spots. The 5-foot-11, 166-pounder should be a shutdown corner in Bud Foster's defense. Joining him in Blacksburg is the state's top offensive lineman, Blake DeChristopher who moved up five spots. The 6-foot-6, 300-pounder should be a solid player for years on the edge for the Hokies.

Fellow Virginia linebacker commitment, Terence Fells-Danzer, stands at No. 8. The Culpeper, Va. star had a solid year registering 82 tackles, seven sacks and two interceptions.

Finishing up the top 10, the No. 9 spot goes to Notre Dame commitment Andrew Nuss out of Ashburn (Va.) Stone Bridge and No. 10 is West Virginia quarterback commitment Bradley Starks who should be able to continue the versatile West Virginia offense.

Virginia Tech landed three players from 11 through 14, including linebacker Quillie Odom who moved up 12 spots to No. 11. No. 12 is offensive tackle William Alvarez and No. 14 is athlete Davon Morgan who dropped nine spots due to an injury plagued senior year. At No. 13, Clemson tight end commitment Brian Linthicum should provide a good target for the Tigers and quarterback Willy Korn.

Virginia again lands on the chart at No. 15 with athlete Max Milien. The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder slid a couple spots back. Chatham (Va.) Hargrave Military defensive end Miguel Chavis comes in at No. 16. The 6-foot-5, 255-pound Clemson commit made the biggest move of any prospect in the rankings as he wasn't on any preseason charts.

The Volunteers came in with two commitments from No. 17, linebacker Savion Frazier and No. 19 cornerback C.J. Fleming. Frazier moved up 12 spots, while Fleming dropped nine in the final rankings. In the middle of the two Tennessee pledges, Hampton (Va.) Phoebus offensive tackle Maurice Hampton falls at No. 18. The 6-foot-5, 290-pounder moved up 9 spots and will be taking his game to Maryland.

Virginia Tech pulled in two more prospects at No. 20 and 21 with commitments from athlete D.J. Thomas and offensive lineman Ibn Latif. Thomas dropped six spots in the final rankings due to academic issues, while Latif moved down three.

The Cavaliers landed two more commitments at No. 22 and No. 24 with linebacker Aaron Taliaferro and linebacker Jared Detrick. Both players dropped in the final list three and eight spots respectively. Maryland defensive tackle commitment Ian Davidson dropped three spots to No. 23.

The final six players in the Virginia postseason top 30 includes offensive guard Jaymes Brooks who is headed to Virginia Tech and Syracuse defensive tackle Bud Tribbey. Tribbey was unrated in the preseason polls.

Maryland pulled in two more commitments in Virginia Beach athlete Trenton Hughes at No. 27 and quarterback Torrey Smith at No. 29. West Virginia athlete pledge Brandon Hogan checks in at No. 28 while Virginia defensive tackle, Anthony Mihota rounds out the top 30.
