Position: Quarterback
Size and Speed: Owens stands 6-foot-2, weighs 210 pounds and ran the 40 in 4.59 at the Nike camp held at Stanford. He also recorded a 4.12 the agility shuttle and leaped a 33-inch vertical jump.
Honors: N/A.
Statistics: In two games of action Owens was completed 28 passes in 43 attempts for 426 yards, three touchdowns and threw one pick.
Favorite Colleges: Owens has been written from the likes of USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington. Northwestern and San Diego State are scheduled to visit Owens at Thousand Oaks high school sometime this week and Fresno State will visit Owens as he works out at the Ventura County combine next week.
Skinny: Owens is another quarterback on the west coast with good skills but not a lot of game experience. He started the first two games for Thousand Oaks high and did a fine job. Then the unthinkable happened.
Owens saw his season come to an abrupt end because of a league transfer rule. Even though Owens was eligible under CIF guidelines, he decided not to ruffle feathers and he ended up having to sit out the season.
“We didn’t want to make a bad name for ourselves,” Owens said. “It was very hard on me but I sat out.”
Owens went to work right then and there to get himself ready for his all-important senior season. He has worked extremely hard and gained 20 pounds without losing any speed in the off-season.
Owens had a little serendipitous luck as he sat next to UCLA head coach Karl Dorrell on the flight home from the Stanford camp this past weekend and they had a nice chat.
Owens will be attending Karl Dorrell’s football this coming June after he attends a leadership conference in Washington D.C.
What is a leadership conference?
“It is a conference where high school students from across the country meet and get together,” Owens said. “We will meet our congressman and things like that.”
“It is basically a future leaders of America conference,” Owens said.
Obviously Owens has the leadership qualities you like to see in a quarterback. He is a very knowledgeable football player and has good arm strength.
Owens can throw the ball 65 yards in the air. He is currently working exceedingly hard on improving his already solid accuracy.
“I just want to become as complete a player as I can,” Owens said. “I’m working as hard as I can towards that aim."
