QB Scalo bouncing back

The last year has been difficult for Central Valley (N.Y.) Monroe-Woodbury quarterback Dan Scalo, due largely to an injury that has thrown a lot of things off track. He's not getting down about things, and that positive attitude may just pay off.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound quarterback can beat defenses with his arm as well as his legs, and has run the 40-yard dash in 4.55 seconds.

He's hearing from schools but not quite as much as he would have if he had been spared an injury.
"No one's offered yet because of my shoulder," Scalo explained. "I had it operated on in December. Before I get an offer they want to see me throw at their camps to make sure I'm not gonna be a bust.
"I tore my labrum in my throwing shoulder and I found that out last May. The doctors think I might have torn it in my sophomore season. I never got the MRI until May when it really started bothering me.
"I played all last year with it and had surgery the Friday after the season ended. I've been throwing since April and finished rehab a couple of weeks ago, so now I'm cleared. It's been six months since the surgery and I'm cleared to do everything from lifting to throwing in 7-on-7's."
The attention he is receiving from schools could increase dramatically if he shows he's at 100-percent in the fall.
"During the months of April and May schools came by to visit for recruiting," he recalled. "I'm going to a bunch of camps over the summer, too. I went to a few junior days earlier.
"I went to Syracuse and Maryland for those (junior days). They were both good. They went well. They were both nice and both had really nice facilities.
"I like the (Carrier) Dome. I've played in the Dome before for state championships. I like the weather in Maryland but Syracuse is mad cold.
"I can't make it to Syracuse for a camp because I have a test, but I'm going there on (June) 27. I'm going down to Richmond in Virginia, I think on June 13. I'm going to James Madison, Temple and Buffalo, too."
