Bennetsville (S.C.) Marlboro County quarterback Syvelle Newton seems to get a new offer every few days. However, his favorite remains the same, although he’s still keeping things open.
“I’m not going to make an early commitment or anything and I’m keeping my options open, but South Carolina offers the best of everything so far,” said the 6-foot-2, 210-pounder with blazing 4.5-second speed in the 40-yard dash. “I really want to play early and would like to play close to home.”
Newton has offers from the Gamecocks, Clemson, UCLA, Nebraska, NC State, North Carolina, Duke, Michigan and many others. This seems to be a two-team race at this point.
“I like Clemson as well and Ty (Zimmerman) is pushing for me to give them a long look,” he said of best friend and future Tigers’ wide receiver Tymere Zimmerman. “I don’t really like their quarterback situation, but as I said I’m keeping my options open.”
Newton would like to take some official visits this season to make sure he’s making the right choice.
“South Carolina has shown all along how much they want me and the Darian Durant deal proved that,” he said of the Gamecocks not offering the North Carolina quarterback the opportunity to transfer. “But I need to take my time.”
