QB Kelly discusses latest big offer

Chad Kelly is on a roll lately with offers coming in from all over the country.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound quarterback from Buffalo (N.Y.) St. Joseph's started out as a quarterback that a few schools in the region knew about.

Then came the offer from Florida State. Kelly admits that one took him off guard and he was pleasantly surprised with the development, even mentioning that Florida State would rate at the top of his list.
Now the Seminoles appear to have some serious competition. Alabama has offered Kelly a scholarship.
"That actually came in Thursday of last week or Friday," Kelly recalled. "I didn't want it to really hit right away so I waited to (go on the record) with it.
"It was really out of the blue. The day before I got a letter from them, just one of their mailings. The next day my coach said he got a call from Alabama. He called them back when I got down to his office and I was like, 'Wow, this was real out of the blue.'"
Alabama offensive coordinator Jim McElwain and offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland spoke to Kelly that day, and apparently they made a positive impression, as if the Tide's name didn't speak for itself.
"They said they saw my film and thought I was a heck of an athlete," he said. "They said to think about what it would be like playing in Crimson Tide colors. It was real sweet hearing from them. I can't wait to get down there. That would definitely be a trip I want to take for sure."
Kelly seems to mention three schools more than the others when asked about favorites, and one of them would come as a surprise to most.
"UB (Buffalo) might be small but my whole family is here. I've got a little brother who's still kind of young and I want to be a brother to him.
"Alabama and Florida State are both wonderful schools. I like them both already. They're both at the top, of course. That's exciting."
Last fall Kelly passed for 2,159 yards with 24 touchdowns and eight picks.
