RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Jayden Daniels continues to land major offers - and a lot more to consider as his recruitment ramps up.
Late last week, the 2019 quarterback from San Bernardino (Calif.) Cajon was offered by USC - what he called a dream school - and the Trojans will be a player as things move forward.
“I’ve been talking to coach (Bryan) Ellis for a little bit,” Daniels said at the King of the IE tournament last weekend. “Thursday he told me to call him and then I talked to him, coach (Tee) Martin and coach (Clay) Helton. That’s when they officially offered me.
“It was kind of a surprise, I’m not even going to lie. It was a surprise to see USC offered me. I was very happy at the moment.”
Growing up in Southern California, Daniels is more than familiar with the USC football program and the idea of playing for the Trojans could be a big deal in his recruitment.
“I’ve always been around USC,” Daniels said. “I went to a game when they played my cousin, Chris Polk. He played at Washington and they beat Washington pretty bad so I’ve been watching them ever since I was young.
“I’m not going to say they’re the team to beat. I’m still open to everybody so it’s not really the team to beat.”
On Monday night, Alabama offered Daniels and it was definitely another big one.
“Coach (Jeff) Banks told me to call him and it means a lot,” Daniels said of the Roll Tide offer. “It’s one of the top, if not the top, program in the country. They talked to me once before and then he said to call him.”
Cal, Utah, Georgia, Oregon, Iowa State, Arizona and Arizona State are some other programs that stand out early to Daniels, who threw for 5,139 yards with 62 touchdowns and five picks and rushed for 1,292 yards and 15 scores this past season.
LSU and Ohio State have started to show interest as well.
