QB Dickey Likes Four

It is pretty clear that Gavin Dickey is one of the best quarterback prospects in the country. The Tallahassee (Fla.) Lincoln star has already received scholarship offers from over twenty prominent football schools. Of these, his top favorites are Georgia Tech, Southern California, Notre Dame, and Miami. He has scheduled official visits at each of these schools.
Dickey likes each of these schools because, “All four of these have great academics.”

There are clearly things that differentiate each program in Dickey’s mind. He likes Georgia Tech’s great offense while, “Notre Dame is so full of tradition and will surround you with good players,” he remarked. “Southern Cal just got a new staff,” he said, adding, “I think it’ll be fun to play for their staff.” Dickey likes the fact that Miami is close to home and of course “they always have a good program,” he added.
The question of why Dickey has become so popular with recruiters is readily apparent by his statistics. Dickey is a 6-foot, 190-pound quarterback who can run the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds. He can bench press 275 pounds and has a vertical jump of 34 inches. Last season, he passed for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns and rushed for 1,000 yards and 10 more scores. Academics, which he notes are important to him, also explain his success. He has a 2.8 GPA and scored a 980 on the SAT. On the phone, he is well spoken and polite and has a clear passion for football and academics.
Dickey has another passion that makes him stand out from the pack – baseball. In addition to being a top football recruit, he is being heavily recruited for Division-One baseball. When asked how he would prioritize baseball as compared to football, he said, “They are equal.”
He went on to say, “I’m going to play baseball in college.”
Dickey has scoped out schools that have both strong football and baseball programs. Dickey also runs track at Lincoln High School, but has no plans to pursue that in college.
