QB Bowers commits to Cal
Ross Bowers had a tremendous amount of respect for the Colorado State program, but once California offered, it was too much for the three-star quarterback to turn down.

The Bothell, Wash., standout committed to the Golden Bears over Colorado State on Tuesday at The Opening, as another Pac-12 program locked up its quarterback in this recruiting class.
It all happened so fast, as Bowers recently took a trip to Berkeley, landed the offer and only a short time later decided to make his pledge.
"I'll be attending the University of California-Berkeley," Bowers said on television. "I got to talk with (Jared Goff) on my visit and I realized he's such a good dude and definitely be a guy I can look up to and definitely help me on my way.
"Being under him coming in as a freshman and trying to learn and soak up as much as I can from him. He's a great guy and just try to be the best I can be in that program."
The 6-foot-2, 175-pound three-star, who had also been offered by Colorado, Wake Forest, James Madison and Montana, liked plenty about Cal from the football program to the school to the environment on campus.
Bowers, whose father coaches at James Madison, said he loved that Cal is arguably the top public school in the nation and the area especially stood out to him.
The Bothell quarterback has had extensive conversations with Cal coach Sonny Dykes among others on that staff and that was important to him. The Golden Bears' offense played a big role in his decision as well.
"I've always considered myself the underdog because that's the position I've been dealt," Bowers said. "That's how I work out, that's how I train, that's how I tell my team how to act. … I always try to keep that chip on my shoulder."
As much as Cal stood out to Bowers, the three-star said there were numerous things that intrigued him about Colorado State as well even though it doesn't have the same name recognition.
The Rams were the first to offer and that was something that meant a lot to Bowers, who said he also loved the coaching staff's honesty. Beating Washington State in the bowl game last year was also a factor the three-star quarterback considered in Colorado State's favor.
