QB Boone picks his ACC team

Everyone knew it was going to come down between Maryland and Virginia Tech for the services of Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith quarterback Greg Boone. After delaying his decision for a day, the 6-foot-3, 258-pounder made his call.
"He committed to Tech," said Oscar Smith head coach Richard Morgan. "Frank Beamer promised him he'd be his quarterback and he'd stay at quarterback and he felt comfortable with the players. A lot of kids from the area have gone to Tech so he knows more people there. I would say those were the two biggest factors."
Boone is ranked as the No. 36 athlete in the country and can play safety or linebacker as well as QB, but his preference has always been under center. In addition to a Maryland offer, Boone had offers from North Carolina, Pitt, West Virginia and others. He threw for 20 touchdowns as a senior and ran for 15 more.
