School: Ft. Worth (Texas) Dunbar

Position: Dual-threat quarterback
Size and speed: Davis is 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds. He has been timed in the 40-yard dash at 4. 378 seconds last season at the University of Texas camp. He has a 3.0 grade-point average with a SAT score of 780, a 35-inch vertical leap, 315-pound bench press and a 405 pound squat.
Honors: Davis was a first-team all-district selection as a junior and a sophomore at quarterback and a second-team all-district pick as a defensive back.
Statistics: Davis is the true dual-threat, two way player. He threw for around 1,000 yards and rushed for 600 yards as a junior. He accounted for 20 touchdowns on offense. On defense, he had 16 tackles and two interceptions but teams did not dare to throw to his side of the field when he was out there.
Favorite Schools: David already has offers from Arizona State, Wisconsin, Texas A&M, Kansas State and Iowa. He lists Penn State, Wisconsin, Michigan, Colorado, LSU and Purdue as other teams he’s hearing from and interested in.
Skinny: Ft. Worth (Texas) coach Bob Jones has seen his fair share of blue-chip talent in his time coaching in the Dallas Metroplex. So when he says that dual-threat quarterback D.J. Davis could be the nation’s best, you have to pay attention.
“He’s not there yet,” Jones said. “But he can become the nation’s best quarterback with repetition and time to develop. He has a cannon for an arm but currently plays in a run oriented offense. We’ll start him out in his senior year at defensive back and play him also at running back, receiver and quarterback. He’s just that talented.
“We expect him to also win state in the 400 meters and help us win the 4X400 relay. He just does it all.”
Sure does, so it’s easy to see why teams are already lining up to offer him scholarships.
So does Davis have anything in mind when it comes to making a decision?
“I want an opportunity to excel academically and I want playing time ASAP,” he said. “It really doesn’t matter if I stay in state, go away from home or where it’s at. I just want a shot.”
