QB Allen commits to Florida

Jake Allen's commitment to Florida took few off-guard. Allen has been high on the Gators since long before a scholarship offer from the program rolled in earlier this spring. He once called the opportunity to play for Florida "a dream." As of Wednesday, he's one step closer to living it out.
Allen, who won the inaugural Rivals Quarterback Challenge Presented by Under Armour this year, made things official with the Gators on Wednesday afternoon, and the excitement radiating off of him after doing so was palpable.

"The last time I was up there at Florida, it felt like I was home," Allen said. "I know that's kind of cliché, but it's true. It was all about the town and how the coaches treat me. It's just a place … I just wanted to be there. After visiting Stanford and Michigan and all of that, it helped my decision. It made me see what I had at Florida was special."
The allure of Florida was strong from the moment the Gators offered Allen, but he was a bit hesitant despite the draw. Part of Allen knew where he wanted to play college football. The other part, however, wanted to take one, final look around.
That look has now drawn to an end.
"I was never totally certain until now," Allen said on Wednesday. "I mean, it was always a dream to play for Florida, but I was never totally certain until now. I know now that Florida is the place for me."
Dream or not, Allen was not always a Florida fan. His mother attended Florida State and the quarterback himself grew up rooting for the Seminoles. None of that matters in the present, however. And even if it did, Allen may have changed his mind after attending camps on the campuses of both schools.
"The difference was just something you can't explain," said Allen, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound three-star. "I didn't absolutely love the vibe I got in Tallahassee. I just didn't love it. I can't explain it. It just didn't feel right. It didn't seem like a place I could spend four or five years. In Gainesville, it feels right."
Allen, who plays his high school ball at Ft. Lauderdale's St. Thomas Aquinas, does not plan to take other visits this offseason.
