Purdue, WVU, Wisco for Ohio CB

Cornerback Jovani Chappel out of Trotwood (Ohio) Trotwood-Madison has already visited 10 schools this summer. Who did the 5-foot-9, 171-pound blazer pick up offers from and who was he impressed with on the visits?
"I just got back from my visits and I had a good time, I got to see a lot of schools that I'm interested in including Ball State, Cincinnati, Bowling Green, Notre Dame, Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, Iowa, Wisconsin and Ohio State," he said. "I was impressed with the facilities at Notre Dame, Wisconsin and Iowa.

"Wisconsin really jumped up a couple notches and I'm looking at them. Their coaching staff is really down to earth and friendly. I love the defensive backs coach, facilities and that they are also known for their academics. I even picked up an offer from them too; they are definitely in my top three."
The two other schools that are in Chappel's top three are West Virginia and Purdue. What does he like about those two?
"I've been watching West Virginia's program and you see them on the rise. They always have a secondary that stands out like this year they'll have the number on safety and last season they had 'Pac-Man' Jones. I also like coach Jones who is my recruiting coordinator," he said. "I know one of our former players' defensive back Zach Logan goes there, so I'm most familiar with Purdue's coaching staff. With him playing in the secondary and having someone I already know there, that does play into it for me and it helps me feel more comfortable with the school."
Other schools that could jump into the mix for Chappel are Michigan State, Notre Dame, Iowa, Penn State and Ohio State. One of those schools the prospect is looking at taking a visit to beyond his top three is Michigan State.
"You can't go wrong with them being in the Big Ten," he said. "I know that they have a few older guys in the secondary and there's an opportunity there that's great for a young player. I also got a good vibe from my recruiting coordinator there."
Chappel holds offers from much of the MAC as well. Does he have an interest in them?
"I'm really looking at Miami (Ohio), Bowling Green and Toledo from the MAC," he said. "I like the MAC because they all are not really big schools. Each year they send players to the pros and it's a place you can be successful and make it to the NFL. I know that it is big-time football and they play big-time games against big-time schools, and I like that."
Schools who are showing the cornerback interest now certainly will have the advantage for Chappel's services as he is looking make a decision by late September or early October.
"I'm planning on graduating early and I want to get my decision done early enough," he said. "I will be attending whatever school I choose in January. I've seen a few guys around the area do it and they've been successful and I want to be able to get ahead of the school work and get in the system."
Visits this summer aren't over yet for Chappel as he is looking to head to Michigan State and West Virginia still.
"I want to just be able to talk to a few of the players at both of them and get the truth about the school," he said. "It's also a good chance to meet all of the coaching staff and talk to them about how things are run."
Chappel should have no problem qualifying with an impressive 3.6 GPA.
The cornerback posted 60 tackles, two interceptions and 13 deflected passes as he was named all-conference as a junior.
