Position: Tight end
Size and speed: For a guy who’s almost 6-foot-5 and 238 pounds, Craig moves surprisingly well with a 4.6-second 40-yard dash. Craig also has a 37-inch vertical jump and a max bench press of 300-pounds.
Honors: Second team Prep all-state, first team NJISAA all-state
Statistics: Last season McGovern had 35 catches for 735 yards and one touchdown. As a defensive end and linebacker, he was in on 54 tackles with 10 for loss, two interceptions and seven knockdowns.
Favorite schools: Craig is listing Penn State as his favorite school right now along with Northwestern, Boston College, Pittsburgh, Maryland, and Southern Cal.
Skinny: McGovern is an excellent athlete for his size. He runs extremely well once he catches the ball and makes defenders miss him. Although he should become much stronger once he reaches the college level, for now he dominates his competition.
“Most schools are recruiting me as a tight end,” said Craig. "I’m also being told that I could also play defensive end in college as well.”
With the speed to run down opposing quarterbacks, the defensive end position is an option for sure.
What about his favorite schools?
“I’ve always like Penn State and I’ve followed them for years. I’ve also been to Penn state for camp and I’ll be going back again this year. I really like the tradition and the academics are very good.”
Tradition is important to Craig, but academics will play a major role in his college choice.
“Northwestern and Boston College are top-notch academic schools and BC is also a top football program. As far as Pittsburgh and Maryland are concerned, I can see myself fitting in at both of those schools."
Craig also has a few ties to California.
“I’m form New Jersey, but I lived in California for four years when I was younger. I really liked it out there so I’m interested in looking at a few schools on the West Coast.”
Craig should be ranked among the Garden states best players this year and will have plenty of offers coming his way.
