PSU is for Powell

New Freedom (Pa.) Susquehannock cornerback Chaz Powell received the offer he wanted in the mail on Saturday. Now the 6-foot-1, 184-pounder is committed and will be playing for Penn State in 2007.
"When it came by mail I called and committed," said Powell, who chose PSU over offers from Georgia, Maryland, Boston College, Purdue, UConn and others. "I liked everything about it there. There was a comfort level there and the opportunity is great. I don't know what position I'll play there, it will be on defense. It will be either corner or safety, it doesn't matter."

Powell had an outstanding NIKE Camp at Penn State in May, something he thinks helped him greatly.
"Running a 4.44 40 was big for me," he said. "It showed I had the speed to compete at the next level to go along with my size. Schools noticed and I think it was a big factor for Penn State."
Powell is done with the process.
"I'm solid and done," he said. "Penn State is the fit. I didn't grow up a fan of any school and lived in Maryland for around 12 years, but Penn State is my home now. It's only three hours away so my family can see me play. I'm happy with my decision."
