PSU adds another commitment

Joe Paterno and his staff are very busy early this recruiting year. The Penn State Nittany Lions just added their ninth verbal commitment.
"I committed to Penn State this weekend," said Frederick (Md.) Linganore tight end/defensive end Mike Lucian. "I actually left a voicemail and sent an e-mail to coach Johnson and when he gets back to me I'll make it official."

Lucian, a 6-foot-3, 245-pounder, also had an offer from Georgia Tech and heavy interest from Maryland, Pitt, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, West Virginia and Boston College. However, PSU was his clear choice.
"I loved the coaches at camp, the campus was great and they play great football," he said. "It's also close to home and I like the Big 10. They said they were going to offer me last Wednesday and I got the official letter this Friday. I didn't waste any time in committing."
Lucian was supposed to head off to camps at Maryland, Pitt, Ohio State, West Virginia and Virginia Tech but cancelled all of them.
"They said I could still go to those camps, they didn't put any pressure on me," he said. "But there's no need. My decision is final."
As a junior, Lucian had 12 catches for 180 yards and two scores on offense and 80 tackles and four sacks on defense.
"I have a feeling I'll play defensive end or tackle at Penn State," he said. "They aren't sure whether I'll play offense or defense, but they mentioned getting me up to around 285 pounds so I assume defense."
