Productive WR Has Early offer

Union, S.C. wide receiver David Smith was one of the most prolific wide receivers in his home state as a junior and for that his early favorite has already offered him a scholarship.
“I have an offer from South Carolina and I love the atmosphere down there as well as coach Holtz,” said the 6-foot-4, 191-pounder who caught 76 passes as a junior for 1,374 yards and 12 touchdowns. “I’m also interested in Clemson, Florida, Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee and Middle Tennessee but USC is my favorite right now.”

Smith doesn’t expect to make a decision on a school until after his senior season. After being named all-state, all-region and all-area as a junior, he can expect many double teams next year.
“That’s fine, I’ll just have to work harder,” he said. “I want to have an even better season next year.”
Smith will camp at South Carolina, Clemson and Middle Tennessee this summer and has already been visited at school by coaches from Clemson and Georgia. Although he lacks blazing speed (4.65-second 40-yard dash), his size makes him hard to defend.
“That’s what most schools say they like the best,” he said. “I’m taller than most of the defensive backs I go against.”
