Prime 21: Recruiting notes

DALLAS -- Top skill prospects from across the country made
their way to Texas Saturday for the Prime 21 Camp. Deion Sanders and several current and former NFL standouts showed up and put the

prospects through drills and coached them in position meetings. With so
many top prospects on hand there was a ton of recruiting information.
Browning taking West Coast tour
Baron Browning
Kennedale (Texas) 2017 Rivals100 outside linebacker Baron Browning has visited
Baylor, Texas A&M, Texas and Alabama and next week he plans to visit USC and
UCLA. He plans to visit Baylor on Friday morning and he hopes to
attend the Longhorns' Under the Lights camp on Friday. He may also try to visit
Florida State before the end of July. He admits a few schools are beginning to
separate from the pack but he is not ready to release them.
Holmes visiting Buckeyes
Five-star defensive back Darnay Holmes names no official favorites in
his recruitment but says that Ohio State and Stanford have piqued his interest
in one way or another. The California-based prospect plans to visit Ohio State
for the school's Friday Night Lights event on July 24. Holmes originally planned to visit
Texas and Texas A&M during
his trip to the Prime 21 camp but had to cancel those plans just prior to his
arrival in the Lone Star State.
Okudah recaps visits
Grand Prairie (Texas) South Grand Prairie 2017 Rivals100 safety Jeffrey Okudah
has been busy taking trips to Alabama, Tennessee, Ohio State,
UCLA and USC.
Tennessee defensive backs coach Willie Martinez made a strong impression
during Okudah's time at Rocky Top. At
Alabama he sat down with coach Tucker and Texans Tony Brown and A'Shawn Robinson. Okudah worked out with fellow Texas DB Jaylon Jones while
at Ohio
State and he was able to meet with coach Urban Meyer. UCLA's beautiful campus
caught his attention and he was able to meet with coach Heyward at USC. Okudah will visit Florida State, Georgia and Auburn next week. He may visit
LSU
in August. He does not have any favorites right now but he plans to narrow his
list during his junior season.
Longhorns standing out for 2017 QB
Jaylon Mascorro
Refugio (Texas) 2017 dual-threat quarterback Jaylon Mascorro has offers from
SMU, Rice, Houston and Kansas, and interest is coming from
Oklahoma State and Texas. The Longhorns have not offered but they are standing out the most in his
mind because of their offense and the way they use their quarterbacks. He plans
to attend the Texas Friday Night Lights camp July 18. Mascorro may attend
Alabama's camp on Monday and he attended a Texas A&M camp earlier this summer.
Mills racking up air miles
Class of 2017 Rivals100 quarterback Davis Mills spent most of June crisscrossing
the country to audition for college coaches, with his most recent stops coming
at Stanford and Oregon. As it turns out his Pac-12 visits aren't over and he
said he will fly direct from Dallas to Los Angeles and visit UCLA on Sunday.
Mills already has an offer from the school and will be taking the visit in order
to get a more in-depth look at the campus. The visit will be one of the last of
the summer for Mills, but he will also squeeze a trip to Tennessee into the
schedule before he shifts his focus to his junior season. The Vols already came
to watch him throw in the spring, but this will be his first time to audition
for Butch Jones himself. If Mills performs like expected, an offer could be on
the way.
Seminoles on top for Wright
Daniel Wright
Four-star athlete Daniel Wright says Florida State leads his
recruitment for the time being. Alabama and LSU round out Wright's top three. Wright plans to visit the
campuses of all three schools before the start of the season. Wright, who plays
multiple positions, will likely play cornerback or safety at the next level.
Brice keeping an open mind
Class of 2017 Rivals250 quarterback Chase Brice continues to keep an open mind
when it comes to his recruitment but admitted that a recent offer from Clemson
really caught his attention. Brice threw for the Tigers' coaches at camp and
earned the offer and said he's going to pay close attention to the team this
fall. Because Brice's skillset is a little different than some of the Tigers
current quarterbacks, he said he wants to discuss just exactly how the school's
coaches might change the offense in order to fit his needs. In the meantime,
Brice has an eye towards his junior season but said he will squeeze in a visit
to Alabama next week in order to throw for the Tide coaches. If all goes well,
Brice could be in line to add Alabama to his already impressive offer list.
Busy camper
Tre Brown
Tulsa (Okla.) Union 2017 Rivals250 cornerback Tre Brown
camped at TCU, Louisville, Arkansas, Indiana and
Oklahoma, and all of them left a
favorable impression. The interest from the TCU Horned Frogs has caught his
attention and Brown will return to Fort Worth for camp on July 17. Oklahoma has
also shown a lot of interest, and of his offers Tulsa has been showing the most
attention. He currently holds offers from Arkansas State, Tulsa and Louisville.
Two out front for Greene
Ohio State and Miami are among the frontrunners to land the commitment of
four-star wide receiver Emmanuel Greene. Clemson, Tennessee,
Louisville, UCLA and others are also in the mix. Greene, who attends Florida's
IMG academy, plans to announce a verbal commitment prior to the start of season.
He intends to visit Tennessee in the coming week and will also tour either
Florida or Ohio State later this summer.
Carper has no leaders
Kedrick Carper
Plain Dealing (La.) Rivals250 athlete Keldrick Carper is being recruited on both
sides of the ball and holds offers from Tennessee, Louisiana Tech,
Louisiana-Lafayette and
Mississippi State. He does not have any leaders right now, but he plans to make
a decision after his junior season. He has visited Mississippi State, Louisiana
Tech and Louisiana-Lafayette, and he has already established strong relationships with their
coaching staffs. He plans to visit Tennessee next week, Georgia for Dawg Night
and LSU July 23-25.
Team to beat
Class of 2017 Rivals250 quarterback Keytaon Thompson recently added an offer
from in-state school LSU and it's already looking like the Tigers are the team
to beat in his recruitment. Thompson said it would be an ideal situation to play
big-time football and stay close to home, but he plans on doing a little more
due diligence before making a final decision. One school to watch in his
recruitment could be Tennessee. The Vols offered last month after Thompson
impressed at camp, even drawing praise from former NFL coach Jon Gruden.
Thompson said he likes Vols coach Butch Jones vision for the future of the
school's offense and thinks his skillset would fit in nicely. If all goes
according to plan Thompson will announce his commitment this fall, but said he
wants to make sure to take some more visits first.
Twins hope to stay together
Tylan Wallace
Fort Worth (Texas) South Hills 2017 standouts Tracin and Tylan Wallace already
have offers from SMU, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma State, Tulsa, Houston and Florida
International. Tylan is regarded as one of the top wide receivers in the state
while Tracin is being recruited as a quarterback and as an overall athlete
capable of playing a few positions. Oklahoma State, SMU, and TCU have been
recruiting the Wallace brothers the hardest, and they would like to play
together on the college level if possible. They plan to camp at SMU later in
July. Oklahoma and Kansas State are also showing considerable interest.
Bush will visit the Red Raiders
Tevin Bush's lone offer is from Texas Tech, and while the Red Raiders
lead his recruitment by default, there are plenty of other schools kicking the
tires on the Louisiana-based back's recruitment. Miami, LSU, Duke, Tennessee and
North Carolina have expressed interest and are said to be mulling scholarship
offers. Bush is yet to visit Texas Tech, but says he plans to make the trip to
Lubbock sometime this season.
Adebo back to 100 percent
Saiid Adebo
Class of 2017 wide receiver Saiid Adebo was back at 100 percent for Saturday's
event, a relief after he missed most of the summer with a hand injury. In
addition to keeping him off the field, the injury also kept him off the road and
limited his chance to camp and visit several programs. He said he intends to
change that with the little time he has left before his junior season starts,
and Arkansas and Oklahoma are at the top of his list. Adebo hasn't visited
either school before so he said he's hoping they each live up to the
expectations he's build up in his mind. The trips could also give the Hawgs and
Sooners a chance to get a leg up in his recruitment, which will likely pick up
once schools have a chance to see him healthy on the field in the fall.
Heath has no favorites
Malik Heath insists no favorites at such an early juncture in the
recruiting process but says Mississippi State is currently pursuing him the
hardest. Heath says he grew up following LSU and hopes to haul in an offer from
the Tigers in the near future. He also has a strong interest in Oregon, which is
yet to reach out.
