Prep school LB makes first official

Marquis Spruill is a linebacker prospect from Fork Union Military. Spruill, 6-2 and 225 pounds, is originally from Hillside High School in New Jersey. He didn't sign with anyone out of high school and prep school has given him another opportunity at playing college football.
"Man, I have to say it's been a good experience," Spruill said. "I thought it would be ridiculously hard, because of stuff I have seen on TV and what I have heard. You just need to listen to what they (the coaches) tell you and you will be okay. It's been a blessing and really has given me a second chance."
This past weekend Spruill made his first official visit to Syracuse. The Orangemen have offered and he was impressed by what he saw.
"It was a great visit. They have such a nice campus. The players are nice, the people are nice, and the coaching staff is terrific. They are like a real family. I mean they have a great family atmosphere. Those coaches connect with players on a deep level there.
"As of right now they are definitely my favorite. Syracuse has offered. So has Old Dominion, Toledo, Temple, and James Madison. Those are at least the offers my coach told me about. I want to visit Toledo (December) next month and I may visit UConn.
"Right now we are on a break and I will know a lot more next week when I get back (to school).
Fork Union finished the season at 5-5. It was a year where Spruill made improvements both on and off the field.
"I think I had a good season and I made some highlights. I play inside linebacker and I read well and have quick feet. I am fast, strong, and aggressive. I need to keep working on my coverage skills. I would also like to get faster."
