There will be some prospects in the class of 2009 who do not meet the initial academic eligibility requirements and therefore have to attend a prep school or junior college.

Despite potential academic issues, players still are highly recruited for several reasons. First, there's always a chance a recruit will qualify. Second, if a recruit doesn't qualify, a school can sign him and place him in a prep school or junior college and get him a year or two later; more times than not in that scenario, the player will re-sign with the same school.
Perhaps the biggest "name" recruit this season on the potential academic bubble is Valdosta (Ga.) Lowndes cornerback Greg Reid, who has narrowed his college choices to Florida State, Alabama and Georgia. He is expected to announce Tuesday.
Another is running back Melvin Richardson from Long Beach (Calif.) Poly, whose recruitment has been rather light because of his academic situation. He is likely to go to a junior college.
Sulphur Springs (Texas) High star Tyrik Rollison, an Auburn commitment, could turn into the top dual-threat quarterback from the 2009 class. He has all the physical ability in the world, but he supposedly has no chance to qualify. Auburn took a chance, and the gamble could pay off, whether it's this season or in the near future.
Here's a list of some potential players from the class of 2009 who could end up at either prep school or junior college:
