Powers adds a 5th school to list

Not much has changed in the recruitment of San Mateo (Calif.) Serra defensive end Will Powers in the recruiting department. He still has four schools that stand out, but did add a fifth and is getting closer to setting his trip dates.
Powers, 6-4, 225 pounds, is a borderline top 100 player nationally and one of the elite prospects in the West. His Serra team is having a great season, currently 6-0 and ranked No. 10 in the state despite playing a tough schedule. The team holds wins over a very good Edison Fresno team, 29-15, and also beat Palma (which tied De la Salle 7-7), 28-21, in week three of the season.

“This week is the biggest game of our lives,” Power said. “We play St. Francis who has basically owned us since before I was born. They beat us twice last year, twice the year before and every other year since I think 1972. They’re 6-1 this year and are always very good. I’m getting excited just sitting here and talking about it. Our whole team has circled this game on the calendar and we can’t wait for Saturday to get here.”
On the recruiting front, Powers still maintains a top four of Cal, Stanford, Nebraska and Oregon.
“I’m also adding Arizona State to my list,” Power said. “They were actually always there, when I took my list from five teams to four, they were my 5th team at the time. I have a former teammate there (Angelo Fobbs Valentino) and he just came by the school last week and said he loves it there. They have a strong Business program which is very important to me and I’ve heard a lot of good things about Tempe and how fun it is there.
“I kind of have an idea of when my trips will be but just need to finalize them right now. They will for sure all be after the season and I’m looking at taking two of them in December and at least two more in January. I would like to wait until all my trips are done before I make my decision.”
