Power 5 teams interest growing in 2019 3-Star DB Jevin Murray

HOUSTON, Tex. -- Shadow Creek High School is a newer high school just outside of Houston, but already has a number of exciting young players, particularly on defense.

2019 defensive back Jevin Murray has been among those making a name for himself this season in the secondary, and his recruitment is starting to pick up some steam.

“This season is going pretty good,” he said. “I feel like I am making plays every game. I’m just taking it play-by-play, doing what coach tells me to do.”

Murray already holds an offer from Texas-San Antonio, but said recently that Indiana and Kansas State have shown more interest in him recently, and feels they could be on the verge of offering. In his Sharks’ dominating win over Silsbee last Saturday, Murray made his mark with several big hits in run support - just the sort of hard-nosed play that Hoosiers and Wildcats coaches like to see.

IN HIS WORDS

On Indiana, where he visited in July

“I loved everything,” he said. “When I took a visit up there in the summer, I felt like I saw everything I needed to see and things looked pretty good up there … I loved the coaches, the coaches are great people.”

“All you have to do is look who’s in the Big Ten,” he said. “That alone tells you that there’s some great opportunities out there.”

On Kansas State, where he’ll visit for Saturday’s game vs. TCU

“I love the way Coach (Bill) Snyder runs Kansas State,” he said. “Ever since I was little I knew about Coach Snyder. When I head out to visit, I’ll be looking for that great family environment, I already know the stadium is going to be crazy, so I can’t wait.”

On UTSA, where he visited for September 16 game vs. Southern

“Things are great,” he said. “I have a great relationship with them - they have a great coaching staff, and things have been pretty good.”

RIVALS REACTION

Murray currently mans the Sharks’ nickelback position, but said that he is being recruited at safety as well. He has good size and is a willing, aggressive tackler. UTSA may be his only offer at this point, but heading into the spring, Murray will be a player to keep in mind as someone likely to see his stock rise over the offseason.
