Powells offer list doubles

Largo (Fla.) Pinellas Park athlete Jeremi Powell woke up today with offers from Purdue and Iowa State, but by the time the school day had wrapped up his offer list had doubled.
"Florida and South Carolina both offered me today," Powell said. "South Carolina just offered me a few seconds ago. The Gators did it earlier today."

The 6-foot-2, 196-pound prospect, who can project as a running back, wide receiver, defensive end, or linebacker, was blown away by the offer from the Gators.
"I never imagined I'd be getting an offer from them," Powell said. "It made me tear up when I first heard it. That is pretty cool."
Prior to receiving the offer, Powell had an opportunity to speak with Florida head coach Will Muschamp on Thursday evening. He expects to speak to him again tonight.
"We were just talking about basketball, track, and other sports and everything," Powell said. "He told me he wants me to come up and visit. I can't go tomorrow, so he wants me to come up next Wednesday to just hang out a little while and see how things are. He also wants me to hang out with the coaches."
Unlike the Gators, Powell has had very little communication with the Gamecocks' staff leading up to their offer.
"They just called me and let me know," Powell said. "I didn't really get to talk to them more than that. I probably will later today or tomorrow. They just let me know they came through with an offer."
Powell will not take a visit this weekend as he is scheduled to take the ACT.
