Powe to pull Signing Day surprise

Waynesboro (Miss.) Wayne County defensive tackle Jerrell Powe shocked a national television audience on Jan. 15 when he donned an LSU hat and told the world he was choosing Louisiana's Tigers over the Auburn Tigers. However, another surprise could be coming on Signing Day from the nation's No. 24 player and No. 3 defensive tackle.

"Jerrell isn't home and I'm not sure when his signing is tomorrow, sometime in the morning I think," said Powe's stepfather, Billy Terrell. "He's all set to sign though."

Will it be LSU, the team he committed to on NBC?

"Nope."

How about Auburn, the team that was his leader for month after month?

"No, it's not them either."

Then who is it?

"Ole Miss," Terrell said. "That's what he told me last night. He took an official visit there a weekend ago and really liked the coaches and players and felt he fit in. He was supposed to go to LSU this past weekend but didn't make it. Ole Miss really impressed him."

The 6-foot-3, 352-pounder isn't academically qualified and will have to attend junior college, but this would still be a huge get for the Rebels.

"I'm not sure where they're going to place him," said Terrell. "We haven't worked out those details yet. Like I said, as of last night he was signing with Ole Miss. That'll happen sometime tomorrow.

If he signs with Ole Miss, and anything is possible with Powe, it would be the third huge commitment in the last month for the Rebels. Offensive lineman Michael Oher and linebacker Quentin Taylor also committed to Ole Miss recently.
