HOUSTON -- The Rivals Speed & Skill Challenge Presented by Under Armour made its second stop Saturday at Westfield High School, showcasing some of the top athletes in the region and drawing the presence of a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The event featured various individual workouts, one-on-one drills and a fast-paced session of seven-on-seven, putting the participants in a challenging setting as NFL great Deion Sanders looked on. His son, Shilo Sanders, an incoming high school freshman, competed with the quarterbacks, but he wasn't the only one that was motivated by the visit.
"It was great to compete with the best of the best," said three-star cornerback Parrish Cobb, who took home Defensive Back Most Valuable Player honors. "As soon as I saw Deion, it made me want to do even better. I came here to do my best, but after I saw him I wanted to do even better than my best. It was definitely a motivation. If I make it to the league, I'd like to do the same thing and work with younger athletes."
Sanders wasn't the only notable guest in attendance. St. Louis Rams quarterback Case Keenum, who in college set multiple passing records at the nearby University of Houston, gave a motivational speech to kick off the camp.
"When I was in high school, it was the start of all these camps and I worked really hard," Keenum said. "My junior year I actually stopped playing baseball to go to these camps. It's a great way to compete and I told these guys there are a lot of two-star recruits that go on and do a whole lot of big things. There are a lot of ways to get to the top and this is a great way to compete and get in front of people."
Rivals100 linebacker Michael Divinity of Marrero (La.) John Ehret shined brightly throughout the event, earning his ticket to Baltimore for the Rivals Five-Star Challenge Presented by Under Armour in June.
Texas prospects showed up in full force, but the Speed & Skill Challenge also featured athletes from Arkansas, Louisiana, Missisippi and Oklahoma.
