Position change pays dividends for Adams

All summer long, Grand Prairie (Texas) South Grand Prairie prospect Will Adams was proving himself as an elite wide receiver prospect. Three games into his senior season, Adams is now proving himself as a true team player. Despite the work he has put into his skills at wide receiver, after a week 1 loss, Adams volunteered to move to the defensive side of the ball where his team needed help. Not coincidentally, South Grand Prairie has now improved to 2-1.
"We moved Will Adams into the secondary which we think is going to be good for us and for Will," said South Grand Prairie head coach Robert Davies. "We think he is a very talented wide receiver and we also really like him as a safety. We had such a need at safety and he volunteered to over and play in our secondary and has been doing a really good job over there. I think it may help his recruiting too."

Adams has made an immediate impact at free safety, picking up 11 tackles in the last two games, a safety, four pass breakups and a blocked punt which resulted in a game-changing touchdown.
"Our defense needed help and our coach thought I was the best athlete to do it so he moved me to safety," Adams said. "So far we've only given up 6 points a game. I'm fine with playing on both sides of the ball and I make more plays now than I was on offense."
Adams' background as a wide receiver may even be one of the reasons for his success on the other side of the ball.
"Playing receiver I think really helps him because he has a feeling for what the concepts and what receivers are trying to do and how they're trying to stem their routes and various things," said coach Davies.
As noted by Coach Davies, college coaches may take notice as well and begin recruiting the 5-foot-11, 185-pounder as an athlete rather than a wide receiver. While Adams still only has a handful of offers, he is getting steady interest from a number of programs.
"Missouri and Michigan State, I'm talking to them a lot," he said. "I get mail, call them on the phone and stuff like that. They both want to recruit me as an athlete. They want to see what I can do when I get there."
Adams has not planned any official visits to date but he doesn't hope to take a few during the season.
"I'm just discussing it with my parents right now," he said. "I'd like to visit Missouri, Oklahoma and LSU. I've talked to them about it. They say they like me more as an athlete."
