Four-star quarterback Josh Portis (6-4, 200, 4.5) from Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft caused quite a stir when he stunned recruitneks nationwide when he committed to Urban Meyer and the Utah Utes back in October. Since then Portis opened up his options and there has been a lot of speculation where he will end up.
Since Portis reopened his recruitment he took a visit to Kansas State on December 3rd. He was recently on the Maryland campus for a very special weekend for the Terrapins.
It was called the big baller weekend and it was all three, four and five-star players. Out of talented display of talent, Portis was the only quarterback in attendance.
Florida was in the Portis household on Monday and Maryland head coach Ralph Friedgen was in the Portis home as well.
Washington, Oregon and Kansas State have also been in the Portis household sine he has opened up his recruitment. Several more schools have come by Taft to talk to Portis.
New Florida coach Urban Meyer has officially offered Portis a scholarship and he will take a trip to Florida this weekend on December 17th.
After viewing potential quarterbacks, Meyer feels that Portis is an ideal fit for his offense and he will try to land him one more time after first succeeding at Utah.
Out of 18 offers, Portis has narrowed it down to four colleges, but the Portis family wants to keep his list of four private.
Portis had a sensational senior season completing 158 throws out of 244 attempts passing for 2,293 yards and 36 touchdowns hitting 65% of his passes. On the ground, Portis rushed for 865 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground. For good measure Portis had a game winning touchdown catch.
It will be like sitting on needles and pins over the next week or so. Portis is expected to make his decision known soon since he is a December graduate and will enter college early making him eligible for spring ball.
