Popular 3-Star WR talks Hoosiers, commitment date
KENNESAW, Ga. – Before this past spring, Khatib Lyles was a relative unknown. Through no fault of his own, his circumstance was set by the fact that he hails from El Paso, Texas, and convincing college coaches to take a hard look at the talent there can sometimes be a tall order.
Eventually, they came to see Lyles. His speed and production at wide receiver became too difficult to ignore and in catching on with TrueBuzz Athletics, and turning in performances like the one he had at the Dallas Rivals 3 Stripe Camp presented by adidas, he showed that he has the goods to be a legit Power Five-level talent.
“Things have been pretty good,” he said. “I’ve just been working and grinding hard.”
After picking up a pretty wide variety of offers from programs across the country, Lyles has been able to think a little harder about what’s important to him and which teams look to be the best fit. While he hasn’t taken any official visits this summer, he said that the plan for now is to make at least one to Indiana.
IN HIS WORDS
On Indiana
“Things have been pretty good,” he said. “We’ve just been in constant communication, just building that bond and everything … They’ve been telling me that they think that I can just be that big playmaker for them on the outside.”
On his relationship with receivers coach Grant Heard
“It’s been pretty good,” he said. “We’ve just been talking about football and all the possible things that I could help their team do in the future.”
On Kansas
“They’ve just been reminding me what it its I can do for their team,” he said. “They came out to see me in the spring and that means a lot when the coaches come to visit me because I’m so far away. It shows they care about me and that’s a big part of things.”
