Pope sets visit No. 1

An offensive lineman we liked a lot at the NorCal Nike camp was San Diego (Calif.) University's Cody Pope. Pope has the kind of frame you love to see in a high school lineman, tall but lean with the ability to easily pack on additional pounds. The talented lineman recently set up his first official visit and could be close on a few others.
At 6-5, 270 pounds with good quickness and overall athleticism for a big man, Pope is a player who projects very well at the next level. The lineman played strictly on the defensive side of the ball last season but is playing both ways this year and most feel the offensive line will be his meal ticket in college.

Pope, the No. 89 player in California and the No. 47 rated offensive tackle in the nation, clocked a 5.13 in the 40 and jumped a very respectable 26 inches in the vertical at the Nike camp and also looked solid in the position drills. Pope also had a strong showing at USC's lineman camp and has a host of scholarship offers at this time.
"Colorado, Washington, San Diego State, Fresno State, Washington State, Colorado State and UTEP have all offered," Pope said. "Colorado was the first school to offer me and I'm taking a visit there (Oct. 7). I'm going to set a visit to Arizona as well but haven't worked out a date yet.
"My plan is to take all five of my visits and I'm not in any hurry to make a decision right now. I'm just enjoying the recruiting process and I think a few more schools might look to recruit me once they see me play more on the offensive line. We're doing good right now, 2-0 and I feel like I've played pretty well in both games."
