He talked about getting offered by the Canes and Hokies.
"Miami was the big thing when I was growing up," he said. "With Virginia Tech, I love their coaching staff. I know coach Torian Gray well. My family has known him all of my life."
Barnum feels that Auburn and Boston College could be close to offering.
"They are supposed to," he said.
Colorado State, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Southern Mississippi, Marshall and South Carolina all have expressed interest in Barum, who could play either offensive guard or tackle in college.
"I am going to be looking at the education you get at the school first," Barnum said. "I want to major in criminal justice and business."
Barnum was a second-team Class 5A All-State selection by the Florida Sportswriters Association following a strong junior year.
