Plano back on map with prospects

Plano, Texas, coach Gerald Brence has several Division I-A prospects this season.
Defensive backs Maxim Dinka and Victor Jones look to attract in-state and national attention.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Jones has what Brence calls that natural ability.
"The thing about Victor is he's another big, strong, physically kid," Brence said. "He plays the ball extremely well and even though he plays strictly cornerback, he's such a good athlete he could play quarterback for us.
"On the college level, Victor will be a corner because it's such a natural position for him and he has such value at that spot."
Dinka, who plays free safety for the Wildcats, also has that athletic ability to play a number of different positions at the next level.
"Maxim could play at safety, rover, or even an outside linebacker for somebody," Brence said. "Dinka should be fine academically for the next level as well. He's a great player like the rest of them."
Dinka and Jones both have good speed for their size and the ability to be very dangerous for opposing offense on the next level.
Brence also has a kicker, Brian Sheffield, who is getting noticed in a big way.
"He plays soccer along with football, but he's a big time talent," he said. "Sheffield has done a great job for us when he stays focused. Our last game last year he kicked two 50-yard field goals.
"I think last year there were only five kicks all season that were actually returned for positive yardage because everything else went out of the end zone."
As far as recruiting goes, letters are flooding in for these prospects though no offers have been extended as of yet.
"This team's very interesting because all of these guys started as sophomores and we're playing one of the toughest districts," he said. "I want to help these guys and put them in a position to be better players and to win of course."
