Pittsburgh lands first 2008 commitment

Pittsburgh got a jump on the 2008 recruiting class by landing Johnstown, Pa. running back Antwuan Reed. The 5-foot-9, 170-pounder selected the Panthers over offers already from Buffalo and Virginia.
"I talked to the coaches from there recently and gave them my commitment," he said. "They were all very excited about it and couldn't wait for me to get there and play for them. I didn't get a chance to talk to coach Wannstedt yet, but I look forward to it."

What stands out about Pittsburgh to the junior prospect?
"The main thing is it's a good school that is close to home," he said. "I like the location that was really big to me because my parents can see me play. I also like the fact that some of my teammates from high school go there including LaRod Stephens-Howling and Scott Corson.
"That was important since I don't want to go somewhere I didn't know anybody. Aside from that, I've been out there a couple of times and I like the city and everything they have to offer. I went up earlier this season for the Michigan State game and the stadium and atmosphere is really nice."
So far this season, Reed has rushed for 1,261 yards.
