Pitt checking on local junior

Junior linebacker Alkwan Williams of Johnstown (Pa.) put together an extremely impressive season this fall, and now has a number of schools showing increased interest. One of these is Pittsburgh, who he has already grown very familiar with.
"Recruiting is good," said Williams, who is 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds. "I'm getting mail from a lot of different schools."

Showing interest currently are Pittsburgh, Wisconsin, Iowa, Penn State, Temple, Nebraska and Akron. However, it's Pittsburgh that is showing the most interest to this point. Williams had a chance to check out the school earlier this fall.
"It was good," said Williams. "I liked it out there a lot. I like the fact that they get to play at the spot where NFL players play."
Another school that Williams hopes to visit is Iowa, and he explained why he hopes to make that a destination.
"Because it seems like a good school and I always wanted to see what that school is like," said Williams.
On the field this fall, Williams lined up at both middle linebacker and wide receiver. He finished with 137 tackles on defense, while adding 25 receptions for 516 yards and 7 touchdowns at receiver.
"I think I did great on both sides of the ball this year, and helped my team out," said Williams. "As a team we went 10-2, but we still didn't go as far as we were planning."
