Pipho lands major offer

Over the course of the Nike Camp tour last summer, we didn't see too many
offensive linemen we liked better than La Porte City (Iowa) Union’s Matt Pipho. In fact, Pipho earned Nike Camp MVP honors following the camp in Iowa and we thought it was only a matter of time before his stock sky rocketed.

Pipho, 6-7, 260 pounds has a prototype build for an offensive tackle. He¹s so lean and carries his weight so well that when we saw him, we figured he only weighed
around 245 pounds or so. He's very athletic and fluid in the way he moves and we feel as he continues to get bigger and stronger, his upside will be off the charts.
Speaking of off the charts, that's exactly how Pipho tested at the Nike Camp running a 5.19 in the 40, 4.66 in the shuttle, jumped 31 inches in the vertical and did 26 reps on the bench. He was also dominant in the position and one on one drills and like we said earlier, we figured it was only a matter of time before every school in the region was throwing offers his way.
“Yeah, I thought the attention would have been a little more but that’s how it goes,” Pipho said. “I didn’t send a ton of tape out and the only other camp I went to was the Iowa camp. I thought I did pretty well there too but I haven’t heard anything from them so I guess they just like some other lineman more than me.”
Pipho did have early offers from Stanford and Iowa State and recently picked
up an offer from Oregon. Then Thursday night, he picked up another offer from
arguably the nation’s top program over the last decade.
“Miami had showed a little interest early on and then asked for some film,” Pipho said. “I sent out some games tapes and they said they were very interested. Then they offered and said they want me to come out for an official visit. It’s exciting for me to get an offer from a school like Miami but I’m still going to take my visits. I don’t think I’ll take all five but I for sure want to visit Stanford, Miami and Oregon.
“I haven’t set up any of the dates yet but will likely take them all in December. Right now, I know it’s going to be a tough decision for me because I kind of have to decide- do I want to go to the really big football program like Miami or the great academic school like Stanford. I have to figure out what’s more important to me and that’s something I’m trying to figure out right now. Hopefully after I take my trips, I’ll have a better idea of what I should do.”
Academically, Pipho is carrying a 3.9 GPA and scored a 29 on the ACT.
