Athlete Amir Pinnix from Newark (N.J.) Malcom X Shabazz is having a great year so far. The 6-foot, 190-pound running back/safety has rushed for 475 yards and eight touchdowns in his first three games. Last week versus Linden High School he had 230 yards on 20 carries and five touchdowns. He also has three catches on the year with one of them for a touchdown. As a safety he has 15 tackles, two sacks, five pressures and five pass breakups.
“I’m trying to set a few visit dates. Right now I have Iowa on Dec. 6 and Indiana on the Dec. 13, but both are not set in stone.”
Amir only has an offer from Indiana so far, but other schools are showing a lot of interest. Besides Indiana and Iowa, Rutgers, South Carolina, Minnesota, Boston College and Vanderbilt continue to contact him along with others.
“My favorites are Rutgers and South Carolina with Indiana, Iowa and BC following. I’m hoping for offers from all of them. I love the coaches at Rutgers, they are loose and make me feel comfortable whenever I speak to them. I know what they are trying to do with the program there and it would be nice to be a part of it. I also like South Carolina a lot, but haven’t talked to them in a bit and of course Indiana was the first to offer and that says something. BC and Iowa I’ve always liked as well.”
Amir is a full qualifier with an 840 SAT score and a 2.8 GPA. He is a very gifted player and has led Shabazz to a 3-0 record so far. He is also considered a very good basketball player and last season averaged 14 points-per-game.
