Pickett claims new offers, leaders

It's been a relatively busy summer for Charlotte (N.C.) Ardrey Kell athlete Justus Pickett. The 5-foot-10, 182-pounder claims a few new offers in recent weeks and a few that stand out.
"I picked up offers over the summer from Illinois, Wake Forest and West Virginia," he said. "I have Duke, East Carolina and Stanford as well.

"I got West Virginia at the end of the school year and then Wake a couple weeks ago. Illinois came in about a month and a half ago."
According to Pickett, three schools are catching his eye.
"Right now I definitely am interested and taking a look at all the schools," he said. "Of them, the top ones are Stanford, West Virginia and Wake Forest if I wasn't to get any more offers.
"Stanford is definitely because it's a great education, that's a main priority for my parents. West Virginia is just one of those schools I've liked for awhile. They definitely run an offensive scheme that fits small backs. Wake Forest is close to home and I like the feel of the school. I met the coaches on a visit there and it went well."
Pickett claims West Virginia and Stanford are eyeing him as a tailback, while Wake Forest is looking at him as a defensive back.
In addition, a few other schools are monitoring the three-star prospect including Georgia and South Carolina.
"There are several schools that want to come to probably my first game and see me in person to see how much I grew, that's the main thing holding me back from offers."
Even though recruiting is drawing some of his attention, Pickett is focused on the season.
"We just got back from a team camp at Western Carolina," he said. "We have a new coach and that's a definite plus for me. I want to have over 2,000-yards rushing this year. I definitely think we'll make a good run in the playoffs and can be conference champs. We've got a good core coming back."
