Pickens ready for first visit

The last time we spoke with Chino (Calif.) Don Lugo wide out A.J. Pickens, he was enjoying the recruiting process but wasn't in any hurry to really get things rolling on that front. Things are now starting to happen for the athlete as he'll take his first official visit this weekend.
Pickens, 5-11, 165 pounds is a talented athlete who could play receiver or corner in college. Receiver is likely where he'll end up and where we think he has the most upside. Pickens worked out with the wide outs at the SoCal NIKE Camp back in April and looked very good that day.

On the recruiting front, Pickens will take his first this weekend to one of the hottest programs out West.
"I'm going to visit Arizona State," Pickens said. "I'm excited because it's my first trip and I really like ASU a lot. We have a game on Friday so I'll leave on Saturday in time to get there for their game with Washington because it's a night game so it should work out great.
"I've been very impressed with ASU this year. They have a young team, a strong coaching staff and I like that offense a lot. They have been recruiting me hard since the summer so I'm looking forward to getting out there and learning more about the school and seeing how I fit in there."
In addition to the Sun Devils, Pickens said he's close to finalizing a couple of other visits.
"I'm not good at remembering dates, my dad is the one who sets up the visits," Pickens said. "I'm visiting Oregon State and Washington in November but like I said, don't remember the exact date. I think Washington is on (Nov. 9) but I don't remember Oregon State.
"Recruiting is going good right now. I've been talking to a lot of schools every night. In addition to those three I mentioned, Arizona calls a lot, Fresno State and San Diego State do too. Things are good and I'm looking forward to taking my trips so I can find the best place for me."
