Phoenix athlete turns up heat

There might not be a hotter target in the West than Phoenix Greenway athlete Kenton Thomas. The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder has gone from virtually little attention to having scholarship offers from more than seven schools over the past few months.
"I never thought this would happen," Thomas said. "I thought honestly, I would only have a few small in-state schools looking at me. I never thought I'd have this much attention. It still kind of surprises me."

What's not surprising is Thomas' talent.
He can play a number of different positions with his size, speed and frame. He said most schools are recruiting him as an all-purpose athlete to play on the offensive side of the ball.
"I haven't found a position where I don't like," he said. "I can't do one position better than another, so I can't really pick. I'm just an all-purpose type guy. I'll do whatever the coaches want me to do."
Those coaches are teams like Colorado, UTEP, San Diego State, Utah, Washington State, Nevada and several others. At this point, Thomas has trips lined up to Utah on December 9 and San Diego State on December 16. He's already visited UTEP back on November 11 and is for sure going to check out Colorado.
"UTEP is still up there," Thomas said. "I'd say they're up there with Colorado. I liked my visit a lot there."
Thomas will take the SAT this upcoming weekend.
