Hampton (Va.) Phoebus safety LoVante' Battle has landed his first Division I offer. The 5-foot-10, 190-pounder picked up the scholarship from the ACC on Friday.
"I've got two offers," he said. "I got one from Norfolk State and another from Virginia. I got the Virginia offer on Friday or Saturday.
"I'd go there anytime. I like that school. They are one of my favorites ever since I was little. I like their colors and had their poster in my room. They were the first team I knew about. I like that they are not far from home. They are looking at me as a safety."
Two offers are in, but other schools are interested.
"I'm hearing from ECU, Duke, Marshall, Syracuse, Illinois and Stanford," he said. "I am going to start going to camps in June, but I haven't scheduled any yet."
What does Battle want in a college?
"I want a football team, they don't have to be great, just good enough where I can play," he said. "I want a good environment with good people and a nice education. I'm looking to study architectural design. Location doesn't really matter to me, but it does for my mom. She likes to go to my games."
Battle posted second team all-district honors as a junior after leading his team in tackles.
"I think what makes me stick out is my speed, strength and tackling ability," he said. "I probably need to work on my backpedal and get my footwork better."
Battle is also a talented track athlete ranked in the top 20 in the state in the 100 and 200 meter dash.
