Phipps stands out

Corona (Calif.) Centennial three-star linebacker Ryan Phipps (6-0, 215, 4.4) started his season last Friday evening where he left off in 2002 when he was selected first-team all-league, first-team all-area and was a second-team all-county selection.
Phipps led Centennial in tackles accounting for 172 as a junior and he led the Huskies in tackles with 13 in their opening game against Rialto (Calif.) Eisenhower in a 25-0 win.

“Ryan was our Defensive Player of the Game,” Centennial head coach Matt Logan said. “He also blocked a field goal to preserve the shutout.”
It was a good time for Phipps to come up with a big game. The Washington Huskies were scheduled to be in the audience and the Huskies are one of the teams that are recruiting Phipps the hardest.
The Oregon Ducks are also recruiting Phipps hard.
Phipps has offers from Colorado, Colorado State, Hawaii, BYU and Wyoming.
“Ryan has an outstanding work ethic,” Logan said. “He is a weight room fanatic. He built like a Grecian statue and he never misses a work out.”
“Ryan is like a work out machine,” Logan said. “He broke the school power clean record with a lift of 340-pounds.”
“Ryan is a lot like Oregon Duck linebacker Kevin Mitchell but faster,” Logan said. “He is relentless in pursuit and never gives up on a play. He plays hard all the time.”
“Ryan has great speed and knows how to use it,” Logan said. “He plays with a great motor.”
“Ryan was a flat out great kid,” Logan said. “He the type of kid you want on your team. Ryan will do whatever you want him to do at anytime.”
